"Orange Peeling" ... It's a nightmare. Having used many Liquid Metal Coatings over the years, I have seen this time and time again. Typically these sorts of things happen when you are pressed for time, or your working on a big project which is of course less than ideal.

If you've noticed this and are now pacing around your spray shop wondering what to do... stress not, just follow the below and you'll have your project back on track in no time.

Go Backwards To Go Forwards

Should you start to notice that your metal has begun to look somewhat like Orange Peel, Speckled or Blotchy, then the best thing to do, is to stop, and go back down to a coarser grit such as a 400 where you effectively start over with your sanding process from that point forward.

The main reason for 'Orange Peeling' ion metal, is due to a typically poor gun setup or spraying technique, which means that during the application process, the liquid metal is not atomised correctly. If the gun is held either too close, or too far away from the surface this will effect the finish.

On our training courses we cover all aspects of the setup and application processes and beyond, so that you have all the knowledge you need to make use of Liqui-Met hassle free. Contact the team today and find out more.
